Rule of Law
Quick fact
The modern idea of the rule of law was famously articulated by British jurist A.V. Dicey in 1885, but its roots stretch back to Aristotle, who argued that law should govern, not individuals.
Why this is interesting
We all follow rules—but who makes sure the people in charge follow them? The rule of law answers this by asking a radical question: should the law apply equally to everyone, even the president or king?
