Trench Raids for Intelligence Gathering in WWI
Quick fact
Trench raids were so common that some divisions conducted them weekly, and the information they gathered about enemy troop rotations and morale was often more reliable than aerial reconnaissance.
Why this is interesting
Imagine you are a soldier in a muddy trench in 1916, and your commanders need to know what the enemy is planning. How do you find out? You might just crawl across no man's land in the dark to grab an enemy soldier and bring him back for questioning.
