The Digital Divide as Social Exclusion in Rural Education Systems
Quick fact
According to UNESCO, nearly 826 million students worldwide lack access to a household computer, and 706 million do not have internet at home—many of them in rural areas. This gap is called the digital divide, and in education it functions as a form of social exclusion, denying these students the digital skills and online resources that are now essential for academic and economic success.
Why this is interesting
Most of us assume the internet is everywhere. So why does a bright student in a rural school feel like a ghost in the modern world?
