The Metaphysics of Death and the Badness of Non-Existence
Quick fact
Ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus argued that death cannot be bad for us because when we exist, death is not here, and when death arrives, we no longer exist—so we never meet it. This 'no-subject' problem remains a central challenge for any account of death's harm.
Why this is interesting
We fear death because it seems to rob us of everything we value. But if death is the end of us entirely, can it truly harm the person who dies?
