The Right to Counsel in Juvenile Delinquency Adjudications

Before 1967, most juveniles in delinquency proceedings had no guaranteed right to a lawyer. The Supreme Court's decision in In re Gault (1967) established that juveniles have a right to counsel, along with other due process protections.
