Primary Colors

Quick fact

The set of primary colors changes depending on the medium: paints use red, blue, and yellow; light uses red, green, and blue (RGB); and color printing uses cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY).

Why this is interesting

Remember mixing paints as a child? You could make orange from red and yellow, but could you make red from any other colors? That puzzle led to the idea of primary colors—the essential starting points that can't be created by mixing.
