Some frigatebird species obtain nearly all their food by stealing from other seabirds, such as boobies and tropicbirds. They are so specialized in aerial piracy that their lightweight, aerodynamic bodies make them poor at landing on water to hunt, yet they can outmaneuver almost any bird in flight to force a 'drop'.
Why this is interesting
Picture a frigatebird soaring over the ocean, watching a booby catch a fish. Rather than diving for its own meal, it swoops down and forces the booby to drop its catch. Why would a bird risk a high-speed chase instead of simply fishing?
